Medical decisions should be in the hands of patients and doctors, not insurance companies.

Affordable Care Act (ACA) Portability

Steve advocates the expansion of the ACA to provide for health insurance benefits across statelines. Under the status quo variations can be extensive, especially affecting mandates or required benefits.
Steve supports the amending or the repeal of the McCarran-Ferguson Act (1945) which protects health insurance firms from interstate competition. Steve will fight for new federal regulations to prevent price-gouging.

States have managed to harmonize their laws such that they can handle residents moving in and out of state with the same auto insurance; states would quickly harmonize their laws to facilitate a national health insurance market.


Steve advocates the Rep. Rosen-backed CHAMPION KIDS Act which provides funding to Nevada's Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

CHIP provides insurance to nearly 69,000 children in Nevada whose low-income families don't qualify for Medicaid. CHIP also helps fund the Nevada Community Health Centers program; and, CHIP helps support the Special Diabetes Program.

Prescription Drugs Affordability

Steve advocates a bipartisan Congressional task force to investigate egregious price-gouging by pharmaceutical companies and supports reforms that will help lower prescription drug prices through greater competition and common-sense consumer protection safeguards.

Steve supports the Bernie Sanders' "Prescription Drug Affordability Act". The bill would allow individuals, pharmacists, and wholesalers to import prescription drugs from licensed Canadian pharmacies.

Steve supports making illegal, anti-competitive arrangements between brand and generic drug makers where the brand name drug manufacturers pays the generic manufacturer to delay bringing their generic alternative to market.

Respect for Women's Rights

Steve steadfastly opposes Tea-party Republican efforts weaken women's rights by attacking organizations such as Planned Parenthood, which provide vital health services to millions of Americans of all genders, races, and ages.
